Heeyyy Iiiiiii, ooohhh, I'm still alive...

Still alive, still snarky, still slacking on the blog. I miss you guys! The time just keeps passing and passing, and I keep meaning to blog, and, before I know it, it is bedtime and I am too tired to post. Bad bloggger. No cookie!

Speaking of no cookies, I am starting a physician-directed weight loss program for the next three months. I am in desperate need of someone else to kick my ass. I had all of my fasting bloodwork drawn this week. I am hoping that the raw numbers will jolt me from my post-Halloween candy daze. Mmmmm, Kit Kats......

We are having too much fun as a family, now that I am not on call. We've been to the circus, and the pool, and the beach and to the store. We are having friends over and sleep overs and lots of good family time. I love hearing my kids shout "Mommy!" with joy when I come home (nearly every night...at a decent time!) from work. Life is good.

On the work-front, I have had some good deliveries. My favorite was one where the baby was really. not. happy. with labor. Lots of decels, angsting at the nurses station. The patient was a multip, so I was hanging on by my toenails to try to get her a vaginal delivery, while trying to keep from having angina, myself. The cool part came when I went to check her cervix to make the final C-section call. I felt her cervix change from 4 to 6 to 8 to complete in the span of about 20 minutes. She delivered a fit and fiesty baby boy (OP) with about 30 minutes between thinking I was going to have to call a section and delivery. Too awesome.

I have more eloquent posts swirling about the cortex, but the bottom line is, I am well, the family is well, and I love my job. I will be back soon. Happy November!

I've just started reading your blog, and I'm SO glad that you've taken time to make it. I've wanted to be an OB/GYN since high school, maybe even earlier. But I've always been too scared to commit to it because I didn't think it was possible to do that and have a closely knit family. So I drifted from major to major, never satisfied with my choice and ended up with a general bachelor's degree (and two beautiful babies, 2wks and 18 months). I still want to be an OB/GYN and you have inspired me! Especially now since things are getting better, as far as your schedule, and you seem to be so happy and together. I want to wait until my kids are a little older before I pursue it, but I'm only 22 - I have time! Thanks for showing the rest of us dreamers that it can be done!

Glad to hear all is well. I too am starting a new diet - this one a 20weeks NIH sponsored diet study where they give me my food for the first 10 weeks, then I'm on my own doing it for the next 10. Hoping this is the final leg of the journey...

Best of luck with yours and looking for new psts to come.

Gotta'love those OP presentations! Good for you for giving her time before a section. She might not realize how many other doctors would've sectioned her much sooner. Glad to hear you're lovin' life with your family. God bless your weight loss efforts, too!

I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy reading your blog. I'm a second year med student with three kids and strong leanings towards OB/GYN. You give me hope that I'm not crazy to choose this field! I'm very happy to see that things are better now at your new job.

I hate those strips. I honestly think they are causing my gray hair more than my kids. Good for you for holding out!

I think OP babies have decels often, eh? I have had the O2...on my left side and run the IV treatment with decels on my babies who were OP just before birth. My worst is when they make me be on my back or sit still with these babies I get antsy nurses. At least last time the OB did not break my water, thereby putting my babe in OP for the duration...and he said "let her move, squat, get on hands and knees." It made a big difference.

Blessings!
Dawn (pregnant again with hopefully birth # 7 who insisted on having an anterior placenta...can you say another OP labor anyone?)

Glad your job is better; I'm a long time reader and OB/GYN who was worried about your toxic professional situation. Hurray for a new start!

If you feel like reading, I started my own OB/GYN blog (although, I have to confess, you already have the internet's best OB/GYN blog name; I couldn't compete!)

gravitycircus.blogspot.com

Please come by and have a look if you have a moment!

Congrats again.

Just tried to comment, so apologies if this is a duplicate. Fellow OB/GYN and long-time lurker here; so glad you're happy at the new job. I had so much empathy for you at your old toxic one, and it sounds so good that you made it out alive (and still loving what we do).

I just started my own blog (although my husband and I both agree that you have a lock on the best OB/GYN blog name ever):

gravitycircus.blogspot.com

I'd love it if you came by and had a look (in your free time, right?)
